SNK Announces World Heroes Perfect PC Edition with Rollback Netcode

SNK Corporation has announced a new PC release for its 1995 arcade fighting game, World Heroes Perfect (ワールドヒーローズパーフェクト). This title joins the “NEO GEO Premium Selection”, a series dedicated to bringing classic NEO GEO titles to modern platforms with enhanced features, notably strong online play. For a game like World Heroes Perfect, which relies on precise frame data and input timing, the inclusion of rollback netcode is not merely a convenience; it is a critical component for competitive integrity, a detail often overlooked in less considered re-releases of arcade classics.

As first reported by Gematsu, this new edition will feature rollback netcode, allowing for stable and responsive online matches. Players can participate in lobbies supporting up to nine participants, a generous allowance for online gatherings.

The release also includes an enhanced Practice Mode. This mode offers features such as speed adjustment and hitbox display, tools essential for players to refine their techniques and understand character interactions at a granular level.

A Classic Returns with Modern Precision

The original World Heroes Perfect was a notable entry in the competitive fighting game landscape of the mid-1990s, standing out amidst a crowded field of arcade titles. Its character roster, featuring historical figures like Hanzou Hattori and eccentric designs such as Mudman, offered a distinct flavour.

The inclusion of all 19 characters, including previously hidden fighters like Son Goku and the boss character Zeus, ensures a complete experience. Zeus, in particular, was often restricted to specific console ports, making his full availability here a welcome addition for fans.

Enhancing the Arcade Experience

New gameplay mechanics introduced in World Heroes Perfect are also present, such as the Hero Gauge. When full, this gauge allows players to unleash enhanced versions of Special Moves and Desperation Attacks. Extra Attacks, unique to each character, and guard crushing moves add further strategic depth.

What this hints at, for the scene, is SNK's continued recognition of its deep arcade catalogue. The company is not simply porting these games; it is investing in the infrastructure necessary for them to thrive in a modern online environment. This approach respects the competitive spirit of these titles.

SNK's Commitment to its Legacy

Beyond the core gameplay, this release adds a Tournament Mode, offering single elimination, double elimination, and round robin formats. This feature supports community events and competitive play directly within the game client.

Additional enhancements include a Gallery Mode for viewing classic artwork and a system for collecting achievements. While a specific release date for World Heroes Perfect on PC has not yet been announced, its inclusion in the “NEO GEO Premium Selection” signals a clear direction for SNK's legacy titles. This commitment to modern features for classic arcade games is a positive development for preservation and player engagement, ensuring these titles remain accessible and competitive for years to come.
