Anbernic Rolls Out RG XX H700 Firmware Update

For retro handheld fans in the UK and beyond, Anbernic has released a new firmware update for most of its H700-powered RG XX devices. The update focuses on stability improvements and adds fresh UI themes for the stock Linux experience.

The build covers nearly all H700-based handhelds in the RG XX range, with the original RG35XX and the newer RG35XX (2024) left out. Devices such as the RG477V, RG477M and RG DS are among those receiving the update, according to Retro Handhelds.

Alongside the stability fixes, Anbernic says the new themes are meant to offer easier operation and a more intuitive display. That should be welcome for players who stick with the stock software rather than moving straight to custom firmware.

The update is not delivered over the air. Users need to download the firmware image and flash it to a microSD card manually, which means backing up saves and other data first is essential. Anyone with a sizeable ROM library will want to take that step before starting the process.
