Anbernic Updates RG XX H700 Firmware
For retro handheld fans in RetroShell news, Anbernic has released a firmware update for its H700-powered RG XX handhelds. The update is aimed at improving stability and adding new user interface themes for players who stick with the official Linux software.
The firmware covers most of Anbernic's H700 devices, including the RG477V, RG477M and RG DS, plus most of the RG XX lineup. The original RG35XX and the RG35XX (2024) are the only models not included in this release.
According to Retro Handhelds, the main focus is system stability. Anbernic says the update includes bug fixes that should make the handhelds feel smoother and more reliable in day-to-day use. You can also check Anbernic's own site at anbernic.com for official product and support information.
Alongside the fixes, Anbernic is adding new UI themes designed to make the menus easier to use and clearer to read. For stock users, that kind of polish can make a real difference, especially on budget handhelds where the software experience matters as much as the hardware.
This is not an over-the-air update. Owners will need to download the firmware and flash it manually to a microSD card. Before doing that, it is worth backing up saves, ROMs and any other files on the card, because the process can overwrite existing data.
For players who prefer custom firmware such as GarlicOS or MinUI, official updates may not be the main attraction. Even so, Anbernic's continued support for a wide range of H700 devices is a good sign for anyone keeping these handhelds stock. The company has also been pushing updates across its recent budget line, which helps extend the life of the hardware.
