The long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake finally has a confirmed release window, with Ubisoft announcing it will arrive in early 2026.

This revitalisation of one of the Game Boy Advance's finest moments brings new hope to fans who've been waiting since the project's initial announcement back in 2020.

Originally scheduled for a 2022 release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the project faced significant development challenges that ultimately led to a complete reboot. Consequently, Ubisoft Montreal took over development from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, wiping the slate clean on both the release schedule and confirmed platforms.

While many associate The Sands of Time with the PlayStation 2 era – and indeed the original Xbox and GameCube versions – it's worth remembering the game began life as a Game Boy Advance exclusive in 2003 before reaching other platforms. The action-adventure title achieved remarkable success, selling over 14 million copies by 2014 and earning a prestigious 92 Metacritic score, cementing its status as one of Ubisoft's crowning achievements.

The remake promises a comprehensive ground-up rebuild while maintaining the beloved core experience. Players can expect new character models, enhanced cinematic sequences, improved voice work, refined parkour animations and a completely reorchestrated soundtrack. Furthermore, modern graphics, updated controls and a more contemporary camera system should make the classic feel fresh again.

Interestingly, Ubisoft has confirmed that the original version will be unlockable within the remake, offering purists the chance to experience the game exactly as they remember it. This thoughtful inclusion demonstrates the developer's understanding of what makes retro gaming preservation so important to the community.

With the first quarter 2026 window now confirmed, anticipation builds for what could be one of the most significant retro revivals in recent memory. The Prince's return promises to blend nostalgic charm with modern polish in what could set a new standard for how classic games should be treated.
