MiSTer FPGA Adds Jaguar and Amiga CD32 Cores

For retro fans in England and beyond, the MiSTer FPGA scene has had another busy round of updates, with official support now available for the Atari Jaguar core. That means users can download it through the standard update channels, with the dual-RAM build still the preferred option for stable performance.

The Jaguar is a tough machine to emulate accurately, thanks to its Tom and Jerry co-processors. MiSTer FPGA uses reconfigurable hardware to mirror original circuitry, so this official release is a notable step for anyone who wants a closer-to-original way to play the system.

Amiga owners have also had a useful update. User caldor has released a modified Amiga core that adds native support for both Amiga CD32 and CDTV hardware. According to RetroRGB, CD32 titles often needed workarounds before, or would not load at all, so this should make the CD-ROM based Amiga systems much easier to use.

There is more than just console news here too. Updates are now available for Atari vector arcade games Black Widow and Gravitar, with the cores converted by user derpyder to Videodr0me’s Star Wars DDR vector-framebuffer chassis. Derpyder has also released a Tempest core and added The Empire Strikes Back to the existing Star Wars core.

On the home computer side, the PICO-8 core from MiSTer Organize has joined the main MiSTer repository, so it is now easier to grab through official channels. User nikiiv has also revived the Oric Atmos MiSTer core, while Anton Gale has used a programmer’s hardware reference manual for the Taito System SJ board to port Jetpac, with both the game and MiSTer MRA files ready for download.

For MiSTer users who like to manage things from their phone, MiSTer Companion for Android is now available as a mobile app for common network tasks, and it costs $2.99. For the wider scene, these updates show how far the platform has come, with official integration for complex systems like the Atari Jaguar and native Amiga CD32 support adding even more depth to the library.
