Vectrex Mini Hits Kickstarter With 50% Smaller Revival

The Vectrex Mini Kickstarter campaign has officially launched, bringing back one of gaming's most distinctive consoles in a modern, compact form.

This faithful recreation arrives at 50% the size of the original 1982 hardware, featuring a 5-inch vertical AMOLED display that aims to capture the crisp, glowing vector graphics that defined arcade gaming's golden era.

While the screen isn't a CRT – which would be practically and financially unfeasible for production – early demonstrations show remarkably rich colours and strong visual impact. The wireless Bluetooth controller maintains the authentic analogue feel of the original joystick, preserving that distinctive tactile feedback that veterans will remember fondly.

Modern enhancements include video output capability, SD card support for expanded game libraries, and a powerful ESP32 processor that ensures smooth performance. Furthermore, the console comes preloaded with timeless classics including MineStorm II, Spike, Bedlam, and Cosmic Chasm, offering immediate access to the system's most celebrated titles.

Each bundled game includes vibrant physical coloured overlays, faithfully reimagined from the original Vectrex accessories that enhanced the on-screen experience. Additionally, the system supports adding your own ROMs, including fan-made homebrew titles that have kept the Vectrex community thriving for over four decades.

The Vectrex Mini also features Wi-Fi connectivity and includes a clock mode displaying time, date, and weather information, transforming the console into an attractive decorative piece when not gaming. Consequently, it serves dual purposes as both entertainment system and conversation piece.

Pricing starts at €99 (approx. £87 / $115 / ¥17,500, based on current exchange rates; check local retailers for exact pricing) for the Founder Edition, limited to the first 50 backers. Other options include an Early Bird edition at €129, a Standard Edition at €149, and a Limited White Edition at €229, numbered and restricted to just 250 units. Various add-ons and packs are available, including T-shirts, art books, additional controllers, and multi-console bundles for collectors.
