Sir Galahad Amiga Demo Nears Release

For Amiga fans in the UK and beyond, there is a new homebrew project to keep an eye on, The Tale of Sir Galahad the Chaste is nearing a playable demo after two years of solo development by Empedocles.

The game is being built entirely in the open-source version of AMOS Basic, with the developer targeting an authentic Amiga A500 setup, 1MB of memory, and Workbench 1.3. WinUAE has been used to test the game in an emulator, helping to keep the project close to period hardware.

What began with inspiration from Monty Python and the Holy Grail has since grown into something more serious. The story now draws on Holy Grail mythology and Gnostic Christianity, with players taking on the role of Sir Galahad and facing Yaldabaoth, a malevolent deity said to rule the game's world.

There is also plenty of old-school Amiga craft behind the scenes. The developer has built a streamlined boot disk, modified from an old Amiga Computing coverdisk, to save memory. Every sound and visual asset in the game is original, and audio playback uses the medplayer.library tracker extension from Aminet.

Indie Retro News reported that a playable demo is expected soon, which should give Amiga players their first proper look at how the game's platforming and story fit together. For more retro gaming coverage, see our news page.

This is another reminder that the Amiga homebrew scene is still very much alive. If you want more stories like this, keep an eye on RetroShell for the latest updates on new releases, conversions, and fan-made projects.
