Five new premium keyboards, including a high-end aluminium Dreamcast model, are set to launch next week.

Sega & Higround Are Collaborating On A Range Of New Sonic & Dreamcast-Inspired Keyboards

Sega has announced a second wave of officially licensed keyboards with accessory maker Higround, featuring five new designs themed around Classic Sonic, Sonic CD, and the Dreamcast. The company confirmed the news on its official Sonic the Hedgehog X account, stating the premium peripherals will launch on December 12th. This follows the successful 2022 collaboration and expands the range with new layouts and technology.

It's a clear move to capitalise on the enduring popularity of its classic IP. The designs cover a broad spectrum of Sega nostalgia, from the crisp blue skies of Sonic CD to the iconic orange swirl of the Dreamcast. The standout piece is undoubtedly the Summit 65+ model, a premium aluminium keyboard decked out in full Dreamcast livery. It's a serious bit of kit for serious fans.

The Models & The Money

There are five designs split across two keyboard form factors. The more affordable Basecamp 75+ models (featuring a numpad) will run you $169.95 and come in Classic Sonic, Sonic CD, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Sonic Adventure 2 themes. The premium offering is the Summit 65+ (a more compact 65% layout), which is made from aluminium and currently only offered in the Dreamcast theme for $299.95.

Higround says the new Summit model features upgraded stabilisers, a new PCB, and a gasket mount design for a supposedly better typing feel. Whether you need a gasket mount to type up your latest Sonic fan fiction is between you and your wallet. For collectors, it's another high-end piece of Sega memorabilia to sit alongside other recent releases, like the returning Dreamcast VMU Pro.

The collaboration shows Sega is more than happy to keep licensing its classic aesthetics, especially for the Sonic franchise which continues to see new life in unexpected places, like the recent port announced for the Commodore Amiga. Whether you're a mechanical keyboard enthusiast or just a Sega devotee with a loose budget, the option is there. All keyboards are set to go on sale via the Higround website this Thursday, December 12th.
