Retro Gaming Weekly News #0203

Welcome to issue 203, with the biggest retro gaming stories from this week. From new releases and hardware delays to preservation tools and Amiga updates, there is plenty here for readers following the scene from the UK and beyond.

First up, Mina the Hollower has taken the top spot on Metacritic’s 2026 chart with a 92 score and a clear Game Boy Color influence. It is due to release on 29 May for £20.

On the hardware side, Hyperkin has delayed the Mega95 portable Genesis once again, with no new release window announced. The company’s Supaboy handheld is also getting new colour options, which should keep the SNES portable in the conversation a little longer.

There is also movement on classic software and preservation. Super ZSnes v0.200b adds MSU-1 audio support and scaling modes, while OmniDrive firmware now lets users legally rip Wii, GameCube and Xbox 360 discs using a modern Blu-ray drive on PC. A separate OmniDrive-compatible slimline disc ripper has also been tested, offering a lower-cost route for disc reading hardware.

For Amiga fans, Geo’s Adventures Prologue, a project started in 1998/99, has finally surfaced after decades of obscurity. Stunt Car Racer has also received a framerate unlock mod for Amiga, and TapJewels and Echodrome both picked up updates, with Echodrome getting improvements and new features.

Elsewhere, Konami’s Super Bomberman Collection brings together all five Super Nintendo entries, including Japan-only sequels, although online multiplayer is not included. Donkey Kong 64 is also coming to Switch Online on 4 June, while Horizon Chase Turbo is leaving the eShop this weekend. Finally, there are a few collector and accessory stories worth noting. A prize 3DS XL from the 2015 Nintendo World Championships, signed by Shigeru Miyamoto, is now topping £16,000 on eBay. Nubeo has released a Missile Command-themed watch, and someone is also making brand new Nintendo 64 controllers for the first time in 21 years.
