Pokémon Alolan Seaglass GBA Hack Announced
From RetroShell news in the retro gaming scene, a new Pokémon ROM hack is taking shape on Game Boy Advance. Nemo622, the developer behind the award-winning Pokémon Lazarus, has started work on Alolan Seaglass.
According to RetroDodo, the project is set in a custom Alola region rather than the official Nintendo 3DS version. It will also use graphics styled after the Game Boy Colour, a look Nemo622 has used in previous projects.
Nemo622 has recently released a major 2.0 update for Pokémon Lazarus, and is now focusing on Alolan Seaglass. RetroDodo reports that the hack will include story changes, a faster introduction, and a larger Pokémon roster.
The early images shared by the developer point to a tropical theme, which fits the Alola setting. One image from the Adventure Log shows a set of Z-Crystals, suggesting Z-Moves from Pokémon Sun and Moon may be part of the game. Bird Pokémon also appear in the start screen art and battle scene, which may hint at a stronger role for them in the project.
Alolan Seaglass follows Nemo622’s earlier work, including Pokémon Emerald Seaglass, although the exact link between the two Seaglass titles has not been confirmed. Pokémon Lazarus also won an award for Best Graphics in a Pokémon ROM Hack in 2026, which gives this new project a high bar to clear.
There is no release date yet, and as a solo project it is likely to take time. Fans who want updates can join Nemo622’s Discord channel, as reported by RetroDodo. For more retro gaming coverage, keep an eye on RetroShell news.
