Nakoruru Joins The King of Fighters AFK

For retro fans in the UK, SNK’s Nakoruru has now joined The King of Fighters AFK, the mobile game from Netmarble. The Ainu priestess from Samurai Shodown arrives as part of a new update that keeps one of SNK’s best-known characters in the spotlight.

Nakoruru is available as a Legendary Fighter with Solid synergy. Her signature moves in the game include Amube Yatoro and Kushinaukke Shikannakki Mutsube, both tied to the nature-focused fighting style she has carried since her debut.

Netmarble has also added a set of limited-time events to mark her arrival. The Nakoruru Pick-Up Event and the Solid Synergy Fighter Summon Event run until 10 June. The Lucky Elpy Event runs from 1 June to 5 June and offers a chance to obtain the Legendary Supporter Shiki, while the Green Therapy Event runs from 4 June to 17 June and gives players a chance to meet the Legendary pets RiRiru and Catra.

The game’s pixel art style is part of the appeal here, with a look that recalls the Neo Geo Pocket Color-era feel of The King of Fighters R-2. For players who grew up with SNK fighters, that makes Nakoruru’s addition feel like a neat fit rather than a simple crossover cameo.

SNK has continued to keep Nakoruru active across its fighting game history, from Samurai Shodown to The King of Fighters. If you want more retro gaming coverage, you can keep up with our latest posts on the News tag page, or read more about SNK’s wider legacy in our retro gaming news coverage.
