This spooky 2001 launch title marks another significant addition to the Nintendo Classics service, available exclusively to Switch Online + Expansion Pack members on the new hardware.

Originally launching alongside the GameCube in 2001, Luigi's Mansion finally gives Mario's greener brother his moment in the spotlight. The premise remains delightfully simple: Luigi wins a mansion in a contest, only to discover it's haunted by ghosts while Mario has mysteriously vanished. Armed with Professor E. Gadd's Poltergust 3000 vacuum cleaner and the Game Boy Horror device, players guide the timid plumber through spectral encounters and environmental puzzles.

Nintendo's official description captures the charm perfectly: "Luigi wins a stately mansion, but he's in for a ghastly surprise when he creeps through its front door and learns that his magnificent manor is teeming with ghosts." This addition means all three Luigi's Mansion titles are now playable on Switch 2, completing the trilogy for modern audiences.

The timing couldn't be better for Halloween gaming sessions. Meanwhile, this release follows other recent GameCube additions to the service including Chibi-Robo and Mario Smash Football. It also represents one of ten titles originally promised when Nintendo announced the GameCube library expansion for their premium subscription service.

Looking ahead, Nintendo has confirmed that other GameCube classics like Super Mario Sunshine, Pokémon Colosseum and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance will eventually join the lineup. For retro gaming enthusiasts, this continued expansion demonstrates Nintendo's commitment to preserving their back catalogue while making it accessible to new generations of players.
