‘Flesh Made Fear’: A Retro Survival Horror Revival Announced for PC

Tainted Pact Games, in collaboration with Assemble Entertainment, has unveiled Flesh Made Fear, a survival horror game that pays homage to the classic PlayStation era. Scheduled for a Q4 2025 release on PC via Steam, the developers have launched a Kickstarter page with the campaign due to launch soon; to fund additional features and potential console ports.

Drawing inspiration from the original Resident Evil trilogy, Flesh Made Fear combines fixed and dynamic camera angles, tank controls, and intricate puzzles to recreate the tension and atmosphere of 90s survival horror games. Players will navigate a world filled with grotesque creatures and mind-controlled adversaries, all products of twisted experiments and occult rituals.

The narrative centers on the Reaper Intervention Platoon (R.I.P.), a covert task force assigned to eliminate Victor “The Dripper” Ripper, a former CIA agent turned rogue scientist. His experiments have transformed a secluded town into a nightmare realm. Players can choose between two operatives: Natalie, who has less health but a larger inventory, or Jack, who boasts greater health but a smaller inventory. Each character offers unique storylines and stats, enhancing replayability.

Key features of the game include:

• Classic Survival Horror Mechanics: Fixed and dynamic camera perspectives, limited saves requiring collectible items, and strategic inventory management with access to safe room storage.

• Puzzle-Driven Narrative: Engage with intricate puzzles intertwined with the story, unlocking hidden secrets and new areas.

• Terrifying Adversaries and Arsenal: Face grotesque abominations born of Ripper’s twisted experiments, using weapons like pistols and grenade launchers. Ammo is limited, challenging players’ resourcefulness.

The Kickstarter campaign aims to raise funds for additional features and console ports, allowing backers to support the game’s development and bring this retro-inspired horror experience to a wider audience.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Remaster Hinted by Steam Database Listing

Fans of Dungeons & Dragons-based RPGs have reason to be excited, as recent developments suggest that Neverwinter Nights 2 may be receiving a remastered edition and its first release on Steam. According to a report by GamesRadar+, a new listing titled “Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2” was recently added to the Steam Database, with updates as recent as February 11, 2025.

Credit: SteamDB

Originally developed by Obsidian Entertainment and released in 2006, Neverwinter Nights 2 is based on the D&D 3.5 edition ruleset. The game offers a rich narrative experience, separate from its predecessor, and features a character creation process, companion system, and turn-based combat mechanics that fans of titles like Baldur’s Gate 3 would find familiar.

The potential remaster follows the precedent set by the original Neverwinter Nights, which received an Enhanced Edition in 2018, making its way to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile platforms. This move not only modernized the classic but also introduced it to a broader audience. The absence of Neverwinter Nights 2 from Steam has been a notable gap for RPG enthusiasts, and this development could signify a long-awaited update.

While official confirmation from the developers or publishers is pending, the SteamDB listing has ignited speculation and anticipation within the gaming community. If the remaster comes to fruition, it would provide both longtime fans and newcomers an opportunity to experience the game with enhanced features and accessibility.

Ruiki Announces X68000 Z SUPER and X68000 Z XVI – A Modern Take on a Classic

On February 6, Ruiki officially unveiled two new personal workstations: the X68000 Z SUPER and the X68000 Z XVI. These updated machines, inspired by the legendary Sharp X68000 series, will launch in fall 2025 via crowdfunding on Kibidango. Pricing starts at ¥74,800 (approximately €470 / $510 / £400).

The X68000 Z SUPER builds upon the existing X68000 Z model but introduces expanded connectivity, including MIDI in/out, a SCSI port, and a D-Sub terminal. Additionally, it supports a Nano-ITX motherboard, enabling dual-boot functionality with Windows.

The more powerful X68000 Z XVI takes things further with an upgraded octa-core Cortex-A55 SoC, a Mali-G57 GPU, and 1GB of DDR4 RAM. While its interface and physical dimensions remain identical to the SUPER, it sports a redesigned front panel inspired by the original X68000 XVI. Notably, users can swap the front unit and mainboard to convert an X68000 Z SUPER into an X68000 Z XVI, offering flexibility for enthusiasts.

Both models come in a sleek Titanium Black finish and are larger than the current X68000 Z but still smaller than the original 1987 X68000. Their exact dimensions are 227mm (H) × 96mm (W) × 169mm (D).

Crowdfunding for these machines runs from February 8 to February 27, with no plans for general retail sales. Given the enduring appeal of the X68000 among retro computing fans, demand is expected to be high.

GOG Empowers Gamers to Shape Game Preservation with ‘Dreamlist’ Feature

GOG, the DRM-free digital storefront, has unveiled the ‘Dreamlist,’ a new feature that invites gamers to vote on classic titles they’d like to see preserved and re-released. This initiative aims to guide GOG’s efforts in negotiating with IP owners to bring classic games back to modern platforms.

Credit: GoG

The Dreamlist functions as a community-driven wishlist, allowing users to cast votes for their most-wanted games. While GOG clarifies that high vote counts don’t guarantee a game’s return, the data collected will help demonstrate community interest to rights holders. Currently, titles like ‘Black & White,’ ‘Diablo 2,’ and the original ‘Final Fantasy 7’ are among the top contenders, reflecting a strong desire to see these classics revived.

This move aligns with GOG’s ongoing commitment to game preservation. In November 2024, the company launched its Preservation Program, starting with over 100 titles, including ‘Diablo,’ ‘System Shock 2,’ and the original ‘Resident Evil’ trilogy. The program ensures these games remain compatible with current and future systems, offering complete editions with all available content and technical support.

In conjunction with the Dreamlist launch, GOG has also released updated versions of ‘Dino Crisis’ and ‘Dino Crisis 2,’ optimized for modern PCs. These releases are part of the Preservation Program’s efforts to keep classic games accessible and enjoyable for contemporary audiences.

By introducing the Dreamlist, GOG empowers its community to play an active role in the preservation of gaming history, ensuring that cherished titles continue to be available for future generations.

The Sims 1 & 2 Set for PC Comeback, Console Releases Uncertain

After years of limited availability, The Sims and The Sims 2 are making a return to PC. According to reports, both titles will be re-released digitally on January 31, 2025, each bundled with all their original expansion packs.

The original Sims game, launched in 2000, became a cultural phenomenon, allowing players to simulate daily life in unprecedented detail. Its sequel, The Sims 2, released in 2004, expanded on this foundation with enhanced graphics and deeper gameplay mechanics. Despite their popularity, both games have been challenging to access on modern systems, making this re-release a notable event for fans.

While the PC versions are confirmed, it’s currently unclear if these re-releases will extend to consoles. Given the games’ origins and control schemes, a console adaptation would require thoughtful adjustments to ensure a seamless experience.

This move not only preserves gaming history but also introduces these classics to a new generation of players. As the release date approaches, fans are eager to revisit the charm and challenges that made The Sims series a staple in gaming.
