C64 Demo Sets Sail with Captain Victor Stormbeard
For Commodore 64 fans in the UK and beyond, KD Software has released a playable demo for Captain Victor Stormbeard and the Undead Treasure. It gives an early look at a new homebrew platform adventure built for the classic 8-bit machine.
The demo includes the full first level, with 21 connected screens to work through. Players can expect enemies, secrets, and treasure to collect, which should give a solid feel for how the finished game is shaping up.
The game follows pirate captain Victor Stormbeard as he heads for a cursed island in search of a long-lost fortune. The setting is bleak, with undead enemies, deadly traps, and forgotten passages standing between him and the prize.
KD Software describes the full game as having a souls-like approach, so careful movement and patience look to be part of the challenge. The demo also leans on classic platforming ideas, with keys opening new routes and exploration playing a key role.
That mix should feel familiar to anyone who grew up with British 8-bit games, where tight level design and punishing timing were part of the appeal. It is another sign that the Commodore 64 scene is still producing new work with plenty of character.
